Our HDY team is a diverse group of creatives, bounded by common strong values and pride of our home, Birmingham. So, when something out of control troubled both pillars, we knew we had to use our position and expertise to stand up to it.
On hearing the sickening news that a young man sustained horrific injuries to his head following a brutal attack back in 2021 because he was holding hands with his male partner in Birmingham’s gay district, we knew we had to do something to stand up to the hatred. So, Hands Against Hatred was born. An out-of-home and digital campaign that sparked a social phenomenon through our city raising awareness and gaining support against hate crime of this magnitude. Fast forward to July 2022 and our campaign has won the Non-profit/Charity Content Campaign of the Year at UK Content Awards 2022, against the likes of Macmillan, Guide Dogs and Cancer Research UK. And we couldn’t be more proud of the accolade, especially as it will once again raise awareness of the message.
The judges said: “The campaign demonstrated great application of purpose and reactive marketing. We loved that HDY Agency had a unique approach that has championing diversity at its core. The campaign was emotive and powerful and had a strong creative. We were impressed that it was a local campaign that was amplified. Great work!”
Speaking about the win, our co-founders Angel Gaskell and Ed James agreed: “This is a true achievement as it represents who we are and what we stand for. We are so grateful we stood up for this and awards help our campaign message reach more people.”
Thank you for our award and congratulations to all other winners!
